Here at Shens Medical, every Profhilo treatment process begins with a thorough consultation with a doctor from our team. This consultation session will involve the doctor briefing the patient on the procedure, setting expectations about treatment process and outcomes, and answering any questions the patient may have. There will also be an initial assessment of the patient’s skin condition and finally the doctor’s recommendation on the patient’s suitability for treatment.
In preparation for the procedure, the doctor may recommend certain things the patient should or should not do beforehand. This includes staying away from medication that can thin the blood, such as aspirin and vitamin E supplements, unless absolutely medically necessary. These recommendations are intended to ensure the treatment proceeds as smoothly as possible, and minimise the risk of unwanted side effects.
Profhilo injections work by stimulating collagen into the skin rather than directly filling in sunken areas. During your treatment appointment, a doctor or technician will first apply numbing or anaesthetic cream to your skin to minimise discomfort.
The injections are administered using the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) technique, with five injection points marked on each side of the face. These areas offer maximum absorption and are positioned away from any big blood vessels to minimise safety risks. A 2020 study of Profhilo adverse event reports across three years concluded that the treatment generally had low adverse event reports, suggesting a high tolerablity in the treatment’s safety profile. Additionally, Shens Clinic follows a strict adherence to hygiene standards in all of our treatments in order to further minimise safety risks for patients. Each procedure takes around 10 to 15 minutes, with around four weeks (or one month) between treatments if recommended by your doctor. This allows the doctor to make any adjustments based on an observation of the initial treatment outcomes. However, the full results will only be visible over several months and will vary across individuals. Maintenance appointments can be scheduled six to nine months after the initial treatment, and it’s best to consult with your doctor about this.Unlike more invasive facial aesthetic procedures, Profhilo has minimal downtime with patients typically able to resume regular tasks, duties, and responsibilities immediately.
However, patients are recommended to avoid makeup and heavily scented products for a few days to allow the treatment areas to heal properly. Patients are also advised to stay away from excessive heat, such as saunas and hot baths, and to avoid strenuous exercise immediately after the procedure to prevent sweating and irritation. Patients should also avoid touching their face, which could result in irritation of the injection site.
